COLOMBO: The Anuradhapura to Vavuniya section of the Northern track length of 120 km will be closed for five months for major upgrades from March 1. All trains will ply only upto Anuradhapura during this period.
A Sri Lanka Railways Spokesman said this section will be upgraded in keeping with modern standards at a cost of US$ 92 million.”
The main objective is to make the train journey on Northern railway line comfortable and convenient with shorter travel time,” he said.
Trains are now running with speed restrictions of 80 kmph in the Northern railway line and trains can run at a maximum speed of 100km per hour after repairs to this section.
“This would enable Jaffna bound trains to travel with maximum speed providing safe, efficient and comfortable transportation for the passengers in the Northern Province,” he added.
Modayaas, what the hell you’ll have been doing during the lockdown of nearly one year? Not only that stretch, but the entire road network should have been repaired.
