COLOMBO : The Department of Meteorology says cloudy skies can be expected over most provinces of the island Saturday (Dec.16).
Showers will occur at times in Northern, North-central, Eastern, Southern, Central and Uva provinces.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in other areas of the island after 1.00 p.m.
Several spells of showers will occur in North-Western Province during the morning too.
Heavy showers of about 100 mm are likely at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, North-western and Eastern provinces.
The public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Sea areas:
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Mullaitivu via Galle, Hambantota, Batticaloa and Trincomalee. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the other sea areas around the island.
Winds will be North-easterly and wind speed will be 25-35 kmph. Wind speed may increase up to 40-50 kmph in the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankesanturai.
The sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankesanturai can be rough at times. The other sea areas around the island will be fairly rough.
The sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Trincomalee via Galle and Hambantota can be rough at times with temporarily strong gusty winds up to 60-70 kmph during thundershowers.
