COLOMBO : Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Kurunegala District MP Ashok Abeysinghe arrived at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to record a statement pertaining to the controversial speech he made pertaining to the Easter Sunday terror attacks and about the people involved in it.
The CID had recorded his statement for nearly five hours yesterday. Addressing a public gathering in Kurunegala recently, MP Abeysinghe said it was President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and SLPP founder, former minister Basil Rajapaksa who were behind the Easter attacks along with Avant Garde Chairman Nissanka Yapa Senadhipathi who funded the operation.
He also pointed out that the Rajapaksas took full advantage of the carnage.
Police sources said that the SJB MP had made the remarks inadvertently and had expressed regret over his remarks.
He further said that like hunters can be identified while the hunt is carried, persons behind the attacks can be also identified in the same manner. He pointed that the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has announced that he will contest the Presidential Election in 2019 less than a week after the Easter Sunday terror attacks.(CDN)
