COLOMBO : Chinese Ambassador Qi Zhenhong paid a courtesy call on Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena at the latter’s official residence on Tuesday, Dec. 15.
Secretary General of Sri Lankan Parliament Mr. Dhammika Dasanayake and Chief of Political Section of Chinese Embassy Mr. Luo Chong were present.
The Speaker warmly welcomed the new Chinese envoy assuming his duty and spoke highly of the traditional friendship between Sri Lanka and China, as well as the long-term exchanges and cooperation between the legislatures of the two countries. Ambassador Qi conveyed the cordial greetings from leaders of the National People’s Congress of China and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, and thanked the Sri Lanka Parliament for its long-term promotion of China-Sri Lanka friendship and cooperation.
On the sideline of the meeting and witnessed by Hon. Speaker Abeywardena, Ambassador Qi Zhenhong handed over a cheque of Rs. 3,418,000 to Senior Prof Sujeewa Amarasena , Vice Chancellor of the University of Ruhuna to fund a new Multimedia Center in the University.
