MOHAMMED RASOOLDEEN
COLOMBO – Deputy Editor of Ceylon Daily News Garry Garnier ,55, passed away in the early hours of Friday morning on July 14.
He is survived by his wife Anjali who is also a sub-editor in the same newspaper.
News Editor of the Daily News Chaminda Perera told Colombo Times that Garnier was at the desk on Thursday night till 10.30 pm and he had dropped Garnier at his home at Kirulaponne last night .
“shocking to hear this news, it shakes not only Daily News but also the whole media world in Sri Lanka,” Perera said, lamenting that he never knew he was bidding him final adieu when he dropped him last at the Kirulaponne junction .
The writer knows him well and he has been associating with him for well over 25 years in Daily News .
“ Garry did not have another world, Daily News was his world , so devoted and dedicated to his profession,” the writer says.
“ A great journalist, veteran newspaper editor, dedicated sub-editor, wonderful colleague.
I met him first in The Island newspaper in 1992. Sad to see his passing away at a young age.

Today, Friday’s edition of Daily News is his posthumous production and his absence will be strongly felt by many in the media world .
He is an old boy of St.Peters College,Colombo. The body will be lying in state at Peiris Parlour , Kalubowila from 9 am onwards on Saturday, July 14
