COLOMBO : Canada is going through an acute shortage of workers from construction to manufacturing to hospitality to Industries. It’s expected to get worse, if not better if Canada does not focus on its educational and training goals.
The shortage has become so acute that the Canadian Economic Development authority is asking the training institutions to step up their educational and training programs to fill the job shortages instead of creating academics who has to wait for 4 years to qualify.
At a time so many are out of work due to pandemic situation, Canada still has a pretty elevated number of job vacancies. The Pandemic has caused spikes in demand for products and services in some sectors struggling to find qualified workers. The hospitality, digital technology, construction, transport and logistic sectors posted the highest vacancy rate in the recent past.
Therefore, as an Educationist, who is following education, migration, employment trends in Canada, I can safely recommend those who are seeking education overseas, specially in Canada to focus on short term digital technology courses , hospitality and culinary arts, engineering technology of 2 years which has on the job internship and pathways to faster employment and settlement in Canada, rather than focusing on long term academic studies to become stranded there after completion without employment prospects and pathways.
