COLOMBO- Bangladesh high commissioner, Tareq Mohd. Ariful Islam hosted an Iftar at the Hilton Hotel in Colombo on Thursday, April 28 for diplomats, community leaders, businessmen, religious scholars and media men.
Diplomats who were present included ambassadors from , Canada-David Mackinnon, India- Gopal Baglay, Iran – Hashem Ashjazadeh, Vatican- Archbishop Brian N Udalgwe, Malaysia-Tan Yang Thai and Palestine-Charge de Affaires Hisham Abu Taha, Deputy high commissioner of UK-Lisa Whanstall, parliamentarians Mujibur Rahman and Faizer Cassim,Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Zafarullah Khan, Hony Consul for Pakistan Afzal Marikar. Aisha Aboobucker, secretary of political affairs at the Pakistan high commission and President of the All-Ceylon YMMA Conference Saheed M Rizmy and Managing Director of Traveler Global Rizmy Reyal and President of Dhaka-based Infinity Maxim Jumat and Islamic Center President and former Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Hussein Mohammed
The keynote speech of the evening was delivered by Ash Shaikh M. Arkam Nooramith, General Secretary of ACJU while the welcome address was made by the Bangladesh commissioner.
The programme ended with a sumptuous dinner served with traditional Sri Lankan porridge and a wide variety of Muslim cuisine
