COLOMBO : Bangladesh High Commission celebrated its Glorious 50th Victory Day with due solemnity and fervour on 16th December 2021 at the Chancery premise. The celebration commenced in the morning with the hoisting of the National Flag by High Commissioner Tareq Md Ariful Islam. It was followed by reading out of the messages of the Hon’ble President, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, a discussion session and a special prayer was offered seeking eternal peace of the martyrs.
Taking part in the discussion, staff members of the High Commission renewed their pledge of working relentlessly for the country. The discussants recalled immense contribution of the martyrs with gratitude and highlighted the importance and relevance of the Victory Day in the building of the nation. High Commissioner Islam in his remarks respectfully recalled the contribution of the martyrs. He highlighted the visionary leadership of the Father of the Nation, who not only led the country to independence but also laid down its guiding principles e.g. equity, social justice and democratic ethos. He also mentioned that the golden jubilee of independence is the biggest milestone for the nation to celebrate. And we are fortunate enough that the nation is celebrating the same while Bangladesh’s achievements particularly in the socio-economic sectors is brighter than her neighbors under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina the daughter of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. On this day, he called upon all to take a fresh vow to play active roles to work for the betterment of the country in home and abroad.
In the evening a cultural programme that followed featured patriotic, and Tagore songs, dance, and recitation of poems. The family members of the High Commission participated in the cultural programme.
Due to Covid related restrictions the Mission was compelled to celebrate the victory day in house with the participation of all members of the High Commission and their family members. However, the cultural programme segment was live streamed through High Commission’s facebook page.
