COLOMBO — Founder of the Ananda Balika Vidyalaya Srimath Anagarika Dharmapala’s 158th birth anniversary was held at the Ananda Balika Vidyalaya, Maradana , Colombo on Friday September16.
Ananda Balika was established on January 25, 1925 in Campbell Street, Borella by Anagarika Dharmapala.
The birth anniversary was held under the patronage of Principal of the School W.B.G. Kumuduni.
Mahabodi Viharaya and Vidyodaya Pirivena monks conducted religious programmes.
Present and past Principals, Staff, Students and Old Girls paid floral tributes to the statue of Anagarika Dharmapala and the students recited the Dharmapala.
Principal W.B.G. Kumuduni praised the services of Anagarika Dharmapala for the Country and the Buddhist Community and she said the country needs such leadership . Past Principals Anoma Dhanayake and Malani Herath were recalled Anagarika Dharmapala’s services to the Community and Country.
Also Old Girls Association organized blood donation camp to mark the birth anniversary of Anagarika Dharmapala at the school premises.
Assistant Directors of Education H.M. Deepthika Herath, Wijesinghe, Principals and Students of the Invitees School, Secretary and members of the School Development Committee , Assistant Principals U.D. Pathiranage, D.M. Sumanasena and Chamani Perera, Old Girls Association Vice Presidents of the OGA Anuja De Silva, Kanchana Dilrukshi, Secretary Shakila Rupasinghe, Advisor Ruchira Yapa Abeywardene and Members, Teachers and Students were also present.
