


COLOMBO — The Director of Amazon College (Pvt) Ltd, Sri Lanka, Seinudeen Marikar Ilham recently participated in an official delegation visit to Canada organized by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Sri Lanka–Canada Business Council and the Canada–Sri Lanka Business Convention. The visit took place from 29th October 2025, covering several key provinces across Canada.
The delegation attended a series of education and business conferences aimed at strengthening bilateral ties, exploring academic partnerships, and promoting Sri Lankan trade and investment opportunities.
During the visit, the Director represented Amazon College at the Canada Bureau for International Education (CBIE) Expo held in Quebec City, where productive discussions were held with representatives from leading Canadian universities. The talks focused on collaborative academic programs, scholarships, and bursary opportunities for Sri Lankan students.
Several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) were signed with international universities to facilitate academic exchanges, study tours, and 2+2 transfer programs.
The delegation also visited the University of Saskatchewan, where the Director met with distinguished academics and scientists, including four internationally recognized researchers. Visits to the Food Science and Agriculture Faculties highlighted Canada’s advanced innovations and technological achievements in these fields.
A subsequent visit to the University of Regina in the city of Regina, located three hours from Saskatchewan, provided further opportunities to explore partnerships. The discussions centered on student exchange programs, joint research initiatives, and international academic cooperation. The university expressed willingness to offer scholarships and bursaries for outstanding students from Sri Lanka.
While in Montreal, the Director met a successful Sri Lankan entrepreneur engaged in the export of spices and coconut-based products to major supermarket chains across Canada. The meeting emphasized the growing presence of Sri Lankan businesses in North America.
The delegation also interacted with members of the Sri Lankan community in Toronto, encouraging them to invest in Sri Lanka and contribute to the promotion of Sri Lankan tourism and business ventures.
The visit concluded in Vancouver, where the team participated in the Franchise Show and Expo, exploring future cooperation in business and franchise development.
Overall, the delegation’s visit covered Montreal, Quebec, Toronto, Saskatchewan, Regina, and Vancouver, each province offering valuable insights and opportunities for future collaboration.
The Director of Amazon College commended the organizing bodies for facilitating this highly productive and inspiring visit, stating that the experience had opened new avenues for educational collaboration and trade partnerships between Sri Lanka and Canada.
