COLOMBO – Amal International School has made an unforgettable mark in Sri Lanka’s school basketball by achieving a historic milestone in the 2024 Sri Lanka Schools Basketball Tournament. Competing in the All-Island Under-17 category, Amal’s journey from Division C to Division A within the same year is a one-of-a-kind achievement in Sri Lanka’s basketball history.
Amal International School started the 2024 tournament in Division C, where they demonstrated skill, determination, and teamwork. Their hard work paid off as they emerged champions of Division C, securing a promotion to Division B. In Division B, Amal continued their dominance, ultimately winning the championship after an intense final against Wesley College, Colombo, with a score of 74-71. This victory earned them a spot in Division A, where they reached the quarter-finals, competing against Sri Lanka’s best school basketball teams. This remarkable success makes Amal International School the first and only team to win both the Division C and B championships within the same year and advance to Division A.
Behind the successful achievement Head Coach Mr. Buddin Amarasinghe and Assistant Coach Mr. Isuru Amarasinghe played a remarkable role and Principal and Management of the Amal International School supported them to achieve the success.
