COLOMBO : The higher Education Commission (HEC), has already announced the ‘Allama Iqbal Scholarships’ under the Pak-Sri Lanka Higher Education Cooperation Programme. Spread over the course of next five years, Allama Iqbal Scholarships provide an excellent opportunity for 1000 Sri Lankan students to visit Pakistan and pursue undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral degree programs in Engineering Science, Basic and Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences. The scholarship aims to promote an effective exchange of knowledge and better understanding of cultures and tradition between Sri Lankan and Pakistani students. Selected candidates will study in top-ranked Pakistani universities, learn about Pakistani society and values, acquire leadership skills, and help educate fellow Pakistani students and community groups about their country and culture. The Allama Iqbal Scholarships are part of HEC’s internationalization initiative to encourage international students to study in Pakistan. Women candidates are highly encouraged to apply for these scholarships.
Pak Sri Lanka Higher Education Cooperation Program is a comprehensive educational program of the Government of Pakistan for the people of Sri Lanka. This is a multi-faceted program having the following components:
- Fully funded and partially Scholarships for Sri Lankan Students
- Faculty Exchange between Pakistani and Sri Lankan universities
- Pakistan Higher Education Expos in Sri Lanka
- Training of Sri Lankan Senior Civil Servants
The Government of Pakistan through the Higher Education Commission Pakistan has awarded more than 600 scholarships to Sri Lankan nationals. 550 of them are currently enrolled in top-notch Pakistan universities, studying on fully funded scholarships. 60 of the Sri Lankan students have graduated and currently serving Sri Lanka in multi-national companies. A few of them have proceeded to Europe to pursue their doctoral degrees. The disciplines offered to these Sri Lankan students through these scholarships are medicine, engineering, allied health sciences, agriculture, biological sciences, arts, humanities and all field of studies.
