COLOMBO: In response to Colombo media questions on the visit of Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani to the United States recently, the country’s ambassador based in Colombo M.Ashraff Haidari highlighted the significance ot the relations between the two countries.
Ambassador Haidari said : “President Ashraf Ghani and his accompanying delegation had a very productive and successful visit to the United States. US President Joe Biden and US Congress Speaker Nancy Pelosi reaffirmed the enduring support of the American Government and people for the sustainable stabilization and development of Afghanistan, consistent with our bilateral commitments.
The expression of enduring commitment by the Biden Administration to Afghanistan’s secure future also honors the US-Afghanistan strategic partnership agreement and strategic partnership declaration, which former US Democrat and Republican Presidents Obama and Bush signed with Afghanistan in 2012 and 2005. In the new chapter of our bilateral ties, President Biden reaffirmed their commitment to providing Afghanistan with continued military, economic, and humanitarian assistance, as we strive to defend Afghanistan against external aggression in the form of Taliban’s terror campaign, which daily kill and maim our innocent people.
Indeed, our enduring relationship and friendship is rooted in our shared national security interests and values of democracy, liberty, and equal human rights. The defense and institutionalization of our interests and values underpin and guide the way forward, as Afghanistan seeks to end the imposed war through a sustainable political settlement where all Afghan sides work to overcome our differences, while preserving the hard-won achievements of the past two decades.
In achieving this win-win goal for sustainable peace and development in Afghanistan, we rely on the enduring support of the United States and other friends and partners of Afghanistan. Their collective support will undoubtedly help maintain regional stability and international security against the threats of terrorism, extremism, criminality and endemic poverty caused by war and climate change.”
