COLOMBO: As Electrical engineers threaten strike action against the government from Thursday, June 9, a Gazette Extraordinary has been issued declaring the supply of electricity an essential service effective from Wednesday,June 08.
The communique was issued by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, by virtue of the powers vested in him in terms of Section 2 of the Essential Public Services Act, No. 61 of 1979.
