COLOMBO:
It’s a day very well spent.
Our visit to Eastern Cancer Care Hospice (EASCCA) in Eravur in the Eastern Province was a treasured experience. The conversations with members of the Board and staff today offered us a unique perspective on the meaning of life and on the difference between hope and despair.
This memorable journey opened us to a world sustained by the milk of human kindness. Cutting across religions, languages and cultures, it demonstrated the unstoppable, uniting spirit of humanity.
From forenoon to evening each moment of our stay was enjoyable. We spoke with souls that receive sustained care and support absolutely free of costs. We walked through its tantalisingly beautiful surroundings. It’s an epitome of nature and human creativity at their best.
The whole project, both in its functioning and evolving aspects, remains a living illustration of inclusivity and sustainability. This is a reflection of the principles the UN Development Agenda — 2030 eloquently talks about.
For anyone keen to see how effectively a cancer care centre can seamlessly integrate sustainable agriculture and health, EASCCA stands as a model for developing countries.
EASCCA shines as a refreshing testament to the power of collective commitment, altruism and enterprise that brings hope to humanity in its darkest hour. Its pioneers, donors, volunteers, medical professionals, retired public servants and countless well-wishers who continue to sacrifice time, effort and resources deserve our highest commendation.
May all those who are engaged in this worthy cause stay blessed! A special word of thanks goes to Fausz Hajiyar and his late wife Nihara Fausz. Their tremendous effort and energy helped shape the project into what it is today.
May this amazing project flourish in its truest humanitarian form.
