COLOMBO : Today, September 2nd, 2025, marks the 80th anniversary of Viet Nam’s Independence Day. Over the past eight decades, Viet Nam has undergone a remarkable journey, overcoming wars, division, blockades, sanctions, and poverty to gradually realize its aspirations for peace, independence, unity, and development, aimed at the target of becoming a developed and high-income country by 2045, in celebration of our nation’s centenary.
Politically, Viet Nam has enjoyed stability under the leadership of the Communist Party of Viet Nam. This year, Viet Nam has successful implemented the restructure at both Central and Provincial levels, for the sake of a more streamlined, efficient and effective administration.
Economically, Viet Nam has emerged as one of the most dynamic economies in the region, with GDP growth rate recording over 7% in 2024, and being expected to reach 8% this year. With an independent and diversified foreign policy, Viet Nam has established diplomatic relations with 194 countries, asserting ourselves as a good friend and reliable partner of the international community.
In our process of our national struggle for national independence and reunification as well as construction and development, Viet Nam has always treasured the support and assistance of friends and partners, including Sri Lanka, especially during difficult times.
On this special occasion, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the Leaders and People of Sri Lanka for their unwavering support extended to me and the Embassy of Viet Nam in Sri Lanka. We feel at home when staying in Sri Lanka. Sri Lankawa mata mage devani nivahanai.
