
DHAKA : Sri Lanka High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dharmapala Weerakkody, accompanied by
Minister Counsellor / Commerce Srimali Jayarathne held a productive meeting with the
President and the Executive Committee members of the Bangladesh Association of Contact
Center and Outsourcing (BACCO) Tanvir Ibrahim, on 14 May 2025 at the BACCO office
in Dhaka. BACCO is the central trade body and advocacy group for the Information
Technology (IT) / IT Enabling Services (ITES) and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO)
industry in Bangladesh. The meeting focused on enhancing close collaboration in the IT and
BPO sectors between the two countries for mutual benefit.
During the meeting, the High Commissioner Dharmapala Weerakkody shared insights
about the current status and capabilities of Sri Lanka’s IT and BPO sector, emphasizing the
government’s strategic focus on developing it as a major contributor to the country’s service
exports revenue. He elaborated on the attractive investment prospects within the IT industry
in Sri Lanka and the range of incentives offered by the country for international investors.
The High Commissioner also explained the opportunities for enhanced cooperation
between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, particularly in areas of business process outsourcing
knowledge exchange, skills development, and collaborative ventures. He extended an
invitation to BACCO and other stakeholders from Bangladesh’s IT and BPO sector to
attend “Disrupt Asia 2025”, the premier ICT event organized by the Information and
Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) of Sri Lanka, scheduled to be held in
Colombo in September 2025.
In response, the President Tanvir Ibrahim and members of the Executive Committee of
BACCO commended the professionalism and expertise of Sri Lanka’s IT and BPO sectors.
The BACCO representatives conveyed their keen interest in establishing connections with
Sri Lankan counterparts to explore avenues for collaboration and engage in meaningful
dialogue. They also expressed their openness to meet with Sri Lankan IT and BPO
companies visiting Bangladesh and extended an invitation for Sri Lanka to participate in the
BACCO Summit 2025, scheduled to take place at the end of June 2025.
During the meeting, both the High Commissioner and the President of BACCO agreed to
arrange a virtual interactive session between BACCO, the Sri Lanka Association for
Software and Services Companies (SLASSCOM), and the Information and Communication
Technology Agency (ICTA) of Sri Lanka, at a mutually convenient date and time.
