

COLOMBO ; Another phase of the series of special public outreach programmes initiated by the Department of Communications of Parliament, with the objective of effectively communicating accurate information regarding the Parliament of Sri Lanka to the public, was held recently, 9th April 2025 at the Parliamentary Complex.
On this occasion, a group of undergraduates from the South Eastern University of Sri Lanka, led by academic staff members, visited the public gallery of Parliament to observe parliamentary proceedings. In addition, they participated in an awareness programme conducted by the Public Outreach Division on the legislative process. Through this programme, the academic staff and students of the South Eastern University were educated on the importance of the Parliament of Sri Lanka, the legislative process and functions, and the committee system. Special attention was also paid to the process of drafting a Bill.
This awareness programme was organized under the guidance of the Acting Secretary General of the Parliament of Sri Lanka, Mr. Chaminda Kularatne, and the Assistant Secretary General, Mr. Hansa Abeyratne, and the supervision of Director (Legislative Services) (Communications), Mr. M. Jayalath Perera.
This special event was graced by the participation of Hon. Deputy Minister of National Integration, Muneer Mulaffer, Hon. Member of Parliament Aboobacker Athambawa, and Hon. Member of Parliament Mrs. A.M.M.M. Rathwaththe. The programme was conducted by the officials of Parliament Mr. M.S.M. Shaheed, Mr. Yasri Mohamed, and Mr. Piyasiri Amarasingha.
