COLOMBO : Residents of Vivekarama Mawatha, Wellampitiya, are facing significant inconvenience in disposing of their garbage. Residents of Vivekarama Mawatha, Wellampitiya, are facing significant inconvenience in disposing of their garbage. The issue arises because the garbage truck arrives without any prior indication of its approach, and its visits are limited to just once a week.
The irregular and unpredictable timing forces housewives to repeatedly step out of their homes to check if the truck has arrived, wasting their valuable time.
To address this problem, we request the following:
- Increase the frequency of garbage collection to at least 3–4 times a week.
- Introduce an audible alert system, such as a siren or a creative jingle, to announce the arrival of the truck.
A jingle could even serve as an educational tool, promoting environmental awareness or highlighting initiatives like the President’s Clean Sri Lanka campaign. Collaborating with a reputed advertising agency could ensure the jingle is both catchy and meaningful.
We urge the Kotikawatta Mulleriyawa UC (KMUC), Gothatuwa New Town responsible for waste collection in this area, to implement these measures promptly. Such initiatives will save residents’ time and ensure a smoother, more efficient garbage collection process
