COLOMBO : Hon.Judge Pasan Amarasinghe issued an arrest warrant against the accused Ganassara Himi for his non-appearance in courts on Thursday. Dec.19.
On Thursday, the case was taken for the judgment, for the charges framed against the said accused under the section 291B of Penal Code of Sri Lanka.
The lawyer appeared for Ganasara Himi informed courts that the accused is presently taking treatment at Sri Jayawardena hospital.
This complaint initiated an incident that occurred in July 2016, where the accused made hate speech towards Muslims at a press briefing held at Kirulapona. His remark was ” Islam is a cancer, and we will wipe it out”.
After a lengthy trial, the Judge had fixed for judgement on Dec. 19 . It is notable that Gnanasara Himi avoided facing the final judgement today.
The case was refixed for judgement on 09/01/2025.
