GALLE : The Prison Emergency Response Tactical Unit (Intelligence Division) managed to find 53 mobile phones during a special search operation conducted in the prison wards of the Galle Prison on Sunday Oct.(06).
The search operation was carried out in the morning and afternoon. In addition to the phones, chargers, data cables and other accessories were found in the ‘A’ and ‘B’ prison wards, a spokesman for the Prisons Department said.
It is also said that some prisoners have thrown their mobile phones out of the windows of the cells when the intelligence officers entered for the search operation.
According to the report, there were seven smart phones among these mobile phones. These mobile phones were carefully hidden in the walls, mats and pillows of the prison cells, sources said.
