COLOMBO: The minister of Buddha Sasana and Religious and Cultural Affairs Vidura Wickremanayake has appointed Chathuri Pinto as the acting director for the Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs ,MRCA, department in Colombo.
Pinto is currently working for the Buddha Sasana and Religious and Cultural Affairs ministry as the director of Christian Affairs.
The vacancy was created due to the transfer of Faisal Abdeen to the Eastern Provincial Council as its secretary.
Hitherto, the MRCA was headed by a Muslim officer and this is the first time a non-Muslim has taken over duties as director.
