



Udunuwara Development Trust (UDT) hosts a successful event to support widows and underprivileged families
KANDY – In a heartwarming display of community spirit, the Ladies Wing and the Green Project teamed up to organize a Village Market on Sunday, the 3rd of March 2024, at the premises of Udunuwara Development Trust (UDT) which is situated at Opella, Muruthagahamula in the Kandy District.
The event aimed at supporting and empowering families of widows and underprivileged individuals from diverse communities in the Udunuwara DS division.
Hosted by UDT, a national non-governmental organization (NGO), the Village Market provided a platform for these families to showcase and sell their handcrafted items, local products, and vegetables. The initiative not only showcased the vibrant talents of the local community but also offered a sustainable means for these families to earn a livelihood.
The event witnessed a remarkable turnout, with the community rallying together to support their neighbors in need.
Visitors had the opportunity to explore a diverse range of handcrafted items, taste local delicacies, and purchase fresh produce directly from the talented individuals who crafted or grew them.
Speaking about the initiative, a representative from the Ladies Wing, expressed her joy at the success of the event. “We believe in the power of community and collaboration. This Village Market is not just a one-time event; it’s a stepping stone towards sustainable empowerment for these families. By providing them with a platform to sell their products, we are not only encouraging their skills but also fostering a sense of self-sufficiency.”
UDT, as the host organization, sees this initiative as a crucial step in eliminating poverty among the widows and underprivileged families in the Udunuwara communities.
