

A H M IQBAL – Colombo’s bustling Maligawatte area was turned into a place of spiritual significance and community cohesion because of the celebrations to mark the 120th Annual Burdha Thamam & Annual Congregation, organized by the Raulathus Shazuliyya Association of Colombo Maligawatte at the grand mosque on Sunday ,Feb.18.
As the sun cast its warm glow upon the city, the masjid’s hall swelled with the presence of the faithful. People from all walks of life, irrespective of creed or background, converged upon this sacred space, united in their reverence for the teachings of Islam and the spirit of communal harmony.
One couldn’t help but be struck by the palpable sense of reverence and excitement that permeated the air. The masjid, overflowing with attendees, echoed with the recitation of prayers, creating an atmosphere filled with spirituality and peace.
A highlight of this momentous occasion was the presence of esteemed guests, including the Guest of Honor, Khaleefathu Shazuli Moulavi Ahamed Soofi (Mahlari), principal of Ajward Al Fassy Arabic College. His wisdom and guidance added a profound dimension to the proceedings, inspiring all those in attendance to deepen their spiritual journey and commitment to their faith.
The congregation was graced by the presence of learned Ulamas, distinguished Parliamentarians, and dedicated Municipal Councilors, alongside the cherished residents of Maligawatte. This diverse assembly reflected the inclusive ethos of the masjid, where people from all backgrounds come together in mutual respect and understanding.
No celebration is complete without the nourishment of both body and soul, and the Annual Burdha Thamam & Annual Congregation was no exception. Over 2000 worshippers were served delicious food, prepared with love and generosity.
The aroma of spices mingled with the laughter and conversation of attendees, creating a sense of warmth and camaraderie that lingered long after the meal had ended.
