COLOMBO – Muslim Ladies College, Bambalapitiya celebrated its 77th Founders Day and Prefects Investiture Ceremony at the College Hajara Hall on Wednesday November 1.
The Principal of the College Mrs. Nasriya Munas along with Head Prefect Shabra Kutubjan cut the anniversary cake at the ceremony.
Also Principal pinned the badge for newly elected Head Prefect Shabra Kutubjan and members of the prefect’s guild.
Deputy Principals Mrs. Rasmiya Aboobucker, Mrs. Akeeda Nuhaman , Assistant Principal and Head of the Primary Section Mrs. W.C.K. Botheju, Past Pupils Association Vice President Mrs. Feroza Muzzamil and Members of the Association were also present.
Muslim Ladies’ College, the well-known premier state educational institution for Muslim Girls, is in existence today because of founder father Sir Razik Fareed, one of the great leaders in Sri Lanka. Muslim Ladies College on a land of 100 perches with four temporary buildings at Fareed Place in Bambalapitiya donated by Sir Razik Fareed himself. Muslim Ladies College was officially reopened on the 1st of November 1946 by the Minister of Education, late C.W.W. Kannangara. Madam Principal, Mrs. Aysha Rauf, was the founder Principal of Muslim Ladies College and Mrs. Nafia Mohideen was appointed as the Manageress.
The school started with 26 students and 3 teachers but within 2 months the student population sprang up to 200 showing a rapid progress. Miss. Mailwaganam, Miss. Workmister and Mrs. Nagendra were the pioneer teachers of Muslim Ladies College and presently more than 3600 students with 165 teachers in all three media Tamil, Sinhala and English.
