COLOMBO : Shameer Rasooldeen was appointed to the Main Board of the Capital Maharaja Group as Group Director, from Thursday, August 17.
He Joined the Capital Maharaja Group in 2004 and is the youngest sitting member of the Main Board of CMG. He is 37 years old.
Prior to his appointment to the Board of CMG, Shameer was Director/CEO at A F Jones Exporters Ceylon Private Limited, the export arm of the Capital Maharaja Group.
Shameer joined News 1st, as a news reporter in 2004, and headed the English News Desk as Director at the age of 25.
He was put in charge of the Tea operations in 2016, and won the Executive of The Year Award at the CMG Annual Group review in 2019, for his remarkable performance in the group.
He holds a professional qualification in HR from the Charted Institute of Personal Management, Sri Lanka and an MBA from UK. He is also an alumnus at St. Cross College, University of Oxford.Shameer is a CNN Fellow, Dag Hammarsjkold Fellow and a Chevening Fellow. He is a senior Lecturer in HR at CIPM.
Shameer was also among the top 20 young Leaders in Asia awarded by ASIA Society in 2017 and is an international award winner for his reporting.
Shameer was adjudged Sri Lanka’s outstanding young personality of the year by the Junior Chamber of Commerce in 2014.
This incidentally is the first Board appointment at CMG, following the appointment of Sashi Rajamahendran, as Chairman / Managing Director at the Capital Maharaja Organisation, 2 years ago.
He is an old boy of D.S.Senanayake College Colombo.
