COLOMBO : Sri Lanka’s foreign Minister Ali Sabry said here on Monday, April 3 that 85.7 percent of the Sri Lankan migrant workers are found in the Middle Eastern countries.
The minister was addressing a group of special guests at an Iftar-breakfast- ceremony hosted by him at the Colombo Hilton Hotel on Monday.
He pointed out that the Iftar party was arranged by his minister after lapse of three years and its purpose is to promote inter-communal amity in Sri Lanka. “ The other reason is to appreciate to Islamic values of the friendly Muslim countries and the members of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) which are hosting a large number of Lankans to get their foreign exchange earnings which eventually fill the national coffers.
He also recalled that Sri Lanka is one of the non-Muslim countries which has always stood for the cause of the rights of the Palestinians.
Members of the diplomatic corps and private and public sector high officials were present at the gathering.
