COLOMBO: On an intervention by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa following a request made by a group of Muslim parliamentarians,the Ministry of Finance announced here on Monday, March 28 that the special import levy on dates has been reduced to Rs. 01 with immediate effect
Issuing a statement, the ministry said that the existing special import levy of Rs. 200 per kilograms of dates has been reduced by Rs. 199 to Rs. 01.
This decision has been taken as a relief measure for Muslims during the Ramadan fasting period, it said.
