COLOMBO – A group of journalists who attended the ‘ Advocacy and Digital Media Rights Programme’ held in Colombo on Wednesday, December 15 framed a set of code of ethics for Digital Media with the help of senior journalists who attended the event.
The Free Media Movement (FMM) in partnership with the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) IFJ Asia-Pacific conducted a comprehensive Union to Union workshop themed, “Advocacy and Digital Media Rights Programme” on the 15th of December 2021 at the Janaki Hotel.
The programme contributed to strengthening advocacy capacities of Sri Lanka’s Digital Media Journalists in terms of their digital rights and the best ways to secure their rights on digital platforms. Moreover, the digital media journalists developed a draft version of “Code of Ethics for Digital Media Journalists” reviewed and discussed by a review panel which included the former FMM Convener and Executive Committee Member Ms. Seetha Ranasinghe, Senior Journalist and Media Trainer Mr. Ananda Jayasekara, Former Editor of Sunday Observer and FMM Executive Committee Member Mr. Lakshman Gunesekara, CEO of Press Complain Commission of Sri Lanka (PCCSL) Mr. Sukumar Rockwood, Complain Officer (Sinhala Medium) at PCCSL Mr. Kamal Liyanarachchi and former FMM Convener and Executive Committee Member Mr. C. Dodawatta.
The draft version will be revised and published on the FMM website shortly. The evening hours of the programme involved the creation of the Digital Media Movement (DMM) among the digital media journalists followed by the appointment of an Action Committee for the Digital Media Movement (DMM)
