ABU DHABI : Super 12s – South African team seems very keen to hold on to the 2nd position in the points table and are able to do so with a convincing win against Bangladesh by 6 wickets with 39 balls remaining. Bangladesh were undone by the South African bowler Rabada, Shamsi and Nortje for 84 runs in 18.2 overs. Linton Das (24) and Mahedi Hasan (27) were the main contributors to at least reach 84 runs.
After winning the toss and bowling out Bangladesh for 84 runs, the South African batsmen led by the captain (Bavuma 31 runs not out) himself reached the target in 13.3 overs. South Africa were in a spot of bother at 33 for 3 wickets, but Dussen and Bavuma steered them to victory by reaching 86 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. Taskin Ahamed bowled well to pick up 2 for 18 runs but the total was too small to make it a contest.
South Africa improved on their run rate too in addition to collecting the two vital points. South Africa stands at 2nd position with 6 points with England at the top with 8 points. Australia is at 3rd position with 4 points. Sri Lanka although in the 4th position, with the outcome of this match is definitely out of contention for the semi final slot. West Indies although in the 5th position has a marginal chance if they win their pending matches against Australia and Sri Lanka.
K Rabada was named the player of the match for his amazing bowling figures of 3 for20. (RZ)
