COLOMBO – The government has decided to give a state funeral to Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, Chief Judicial Prelate for the two Regions of Colombo and Chilaw, Aggamahapandit Dr Most Venerable Welamitiyawe Kusaladamma Thera,who passed away Wednesday, Oct,27.The Thera was 85 years old at the time of his demise.
The Ministry of Buddha Sasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs states that arrangements will be made on the directive of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa to hold the funeral of the late Thera with full state honours.
Late Venerable Kusaladamma Thera who functioned as the Head of the Peliyagoda Vidyalankara Pirivena performed a great service for the propagation of Buddhism in this country.
The funeral arrangements will be announced later.
