
DUBAI: A total of 16 warm-up matches will be played between participant teams of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021. All of the warm-up matches will be played in Abu Dhabi and Dubai but no spectators are allowed to attend.
The first set of warm-up fixtures began on 12 October, featuring all the eight teams in Round 1 of the tournament (Sri Lanka, Ireland, the Netherlands, Namibia , Bangladesh, Scotland, Papua New Guinea, Oman. Each team will play two warm-up matches and the first set of warm-up fixtures will end on the 14th of October.
Sri Lanka played against Bangladesh yesterday (12th October) and secured a win by 4 wickets. Chasing Bangladesh’s total of 147/7 off 20 overs, Avishka Fernando (62* off 42 balls) and Chamika Karunaratne (29* off 25) led Sri Lanka to victory with an over to spare. Sri Lanka will play its second warm up match tomorrow (14th October) against Papua New Guinea.
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 will officially commence from the 17th of October with the Round 1 matches. The Round 1 match dates on which the Sri Lankan team would be competing are as follows.
18th October Sri Lanka Vs Namibia – 7.30 pm (Abu Dhabi)
20th October Sri Lanka Vs Ireland – 7.30 pm (Abu Dhabi)
22nd October Sri Lanka Vs Netherlands – 7.30 pm (Sharjah)
Meanwhile, the second set of warm-up fixtures will begin on October 18, and conclude on October 20, with the eight confirmed Super12 teams (India, West Indies, England, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan and Afghanistan). Each team is set to play two warm-up matches each.(RZ)
