LONDON : Sania Mirza travelled to the UK for the grass-court leg of the tour with her son Izhaan Mirza Malik and the 2-year-old has been cheering for his mother from the courtside at Wimbledon 2021. Mirza, a 6-time Grand Slam doubles champion, had secured a visa for his son as she prepares for the Tokyo Olympics on the grass-courts of England.
On Saturday, Izhaan Mirza Malik joined his mother and the star player’s doubles partner Rohan Bopanna for celebrations on-court after the pair won their mixed doubles second-round match. The loudest cheer from the Wimbledon crowd on Court 18 was reserved for Izhaan as he was carried onto the pitch by Sania.
In a heartwarming moment, Sania Mirza’s son high-fived Rohan Bopanna after having cheered for the Indian duo from the stands. Sania then urged her son to acknowledge the applause from the crowd.
Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna defeated the British pairing of Emily Webley-Smith and Aidan McHugh 6-3, 6-1 in their second-round match to advance to the third-round.
