COLOMBO : Merci Lanka Foundation, a vibrant non-profit organization launched a Vocational Training Centre on 13th February 2021 at their head office at Charlemont Road, Wellawatte.
With the onset of the pandemic many youths have lost their jobs and job opportunities too have been constrained.
Under the circumstances it was felt that acquiring technical skills will be the best way forward. Initially courses in Web Designing, Digital Marketing, Electrics and Electronics will be conducted, which will eventually enable those who complete a 6 month course in the above disciplines to sit for the diploma exam in the particular field conducted by the government Vocational Training Institute.

The courses are offered free of charge and geared towards assisting orphans and needy school leavers from all communities. The diploma will enable students to either seek suitable employment or set up their own establishment. Those who are keen on setting up their own business, will be encouraged with offer of interest free loans from Merci Lanka Foundation.
In due course, MLF intends to increase the number of courses on offer in disciplines such as plumbing and motor mechanism.
The inauguration ceremony was presided over by the Chairman Mr. M. Liyawdeen and the Guests of Honour at the function were M/S. M.A.M Thassim , Assistant Governor ,Central Bank and Muslim Sallaudeen, a prominent business personality.
