COLOMBO: A group of youths have tied baby nappies at the Kanatte crematorium on Friday to show their concerns over the forced cremation of Covid infected dead bodies.
Former state minister Ali Zahir Mowlana took part separately in his own way to show his protest to the government urging the concerned officials to come to an early decision to revoke the cremation policy to respect the sentiments of the aggrieved people in the country.
Recently , a 20 day old infant who died of Covid was cremated at the Kanatta crematorium which ignited the sentiments of the mothers and fathers.
On Thursday Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa clearly said the cremation policy was adopted due to health reasons and it had nothing to do with religions.He had also requested officials to look for suitable place to bury such bodies.
