COLOMBO : Four Lankans including two females including will leave for Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, August 5 to take part in King Abdulaziz International Quran Memorization Competition
Four Sri Lankans have been selected for the first time to participate in the King Abdulaziz International Quran Memorization Competition, which is organized by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Dawah of Saudi Arabia.
Accordingly, Muhammad Imdad Iyas Muhammad, a student of Rajagiriya Mawahibul Uloom Madrasa from Galhinne, Kandy, M.A., a student of Adulugama Daru Aisha Madrasa from Puttalam, Fatima Nilama, Muhammad Ifat Sayeed, a student of Darul Uloom Madrasa from Dehiwela, and Mumtasa Mansoor, a student of Ummul Qura Girls’ Arabic College from Elamaldeniya, Kandy, have been selected.
The send-off ceremony was held at the Saudi Arabian Embassy in Colombo on Tuesday August (04) Under the chairmanship of Saudi Arabian Charge d’Affaires to Sri Lanka, Yasir Abdulrahman Alhazmi.
Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs and Cultural Affairs, Muneer Mulaffar, and the Director of the Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs, M.S.M. Nawaz, the parents of the contestants and embassy officials were present at the event.
Free passage, board and lodging in Saudi Arabia are provided by the Saudi government for participants as well as their accompanying parents. In addition to performing Umrah, the part ipants will be taken to Madinah to visit the Prophet’s Mosque
