DOHA ,: The Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Qatar, Sithara Khan called on General Manager of Katara, the Cultural Village Foundation, Prof. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al-Sulaiti on 29 June 2026, to discuss avenues for cultural cooperation between Sri Lanka and Qatar.
Ambassador Khan began by thanking Prof. Al-Sulaiti and his team for their unstinted support when Sri Lanka hosted the Ceylon Tea Tasting Evening at Katara Cultural Village on 9 June 2026, which reflected the rich cultural heritage of Sri Lanka which was a resounding success.
Prof. Al-Sulaiti a PhD holder in Marketing from the University of Strathclyde in the United Kingdom, has been leading Katara, the Cultural Village Foundation since 2012, welcomed the Ambassador and referred to the positive reactions to the Ceylon Tea Tasting Evening. He invited the Sri Lankan Embassy to host similar events at Katara Cultural Village and in particular suggested to establish an art installation reflective of Sri Lanka’s uniqueness on Katara’s premises marking a Sri Lanka corner.
The Ambassador welcomed the suggestion and stated that as Sri Lanka and Qatar are commemorating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2026-2027, the Sri Lanka Embassy was keen to partner with Katara and wished to organize a film screening and some cultural events to mark this important milestone in the history of the two countries.
As Katara, the Cultural Village Foundation stands as the largest and most multidimensional cultural project in Qatar where people come together to experience the cultures of the world with theatres, concert halls, exhibition galleries and cutting-edge facilities, it would be an ideal location to expand the bilateral cultural cooperations between the two countries.
Ambassador Khan and Prof Al-Sulaiti agreed to coordinate closely to ensure further strengthening of the cultural cooperation between Sri Lanka and Qatar. Head of Chancery and Counsellor, Dulanji Herath and Maryam Majid Al Saad of Katara the Cultural Village Foundation were also associated with the meeting.
