CALICUT : Malayalam cinema icon Mammootty added another proud achievement to his legendary journey after receiving an honorary doctorate from Mahatma Gandhi University in Kottayam. The prestigious honour was presented by Kerala Governor Rajendra Arlekar during the university’s grand convocation ceremony.
Mammootty was recognised for his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema over several decades. The actor attended the event in a simple and elegant traditional outfit, receiving huge applause from students, guests, and faculty members present at the ceremony, who all gathered to celebrate the veteran star’s unparalleled dedication to the arts, philanthropy, and cinematic excellence.
MG University honours Mammootty for contribution to Indian cinema
Mammootty received the honorary Doctor of Letters (D.Litt) degree for his remarkable contribution to cinema and culture.
The university also honoured renowned nadaswaram artist Thiruvizha Jayashankar and vascular surgeon N Radhakrishnan during the same event. Speaking after receiving the honour, Mammootty shared a heartfelt message on social media. “Humbled to have received the Honorary D.Litt. from Mahatma Gandhi University today, presented by the Honourable Governor of Kerala.
