COLOMBO, – The High Commission of Pakistan in Colombo held a ceremony Thursday, May 7, to commemorate the anniversary of Marka-e-Haq, or the “Battle for Truth,” a defining moment in the nation’s history symbolizing courage, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to sovereignty.
During the event, which was attended by colleagues, members of the Sri Lankan Armed Forces, and officers from the Armed Forces of Pakistan, the High Commissioner recounted the events of early 2025. He noted that following a false flag operation in the Indian Illegally Occupied Territory of Pahalgam on April 22 and subsequent Indian aggression on May 6-7, the Pakistan armed forces responded precisely and responsibly on May 10, targeting only military installations in self-defense. This day serves as a tribute to the sacrifices made by the armed forces and their families, whose courage ensures the ongoing security and dignity of the nation.
The High Commissioner emphasized that the Jammu and Kashmir dispute remains the central factor contributing to instability in the region and called for a durable and peaceful resolution in line with UN Security Council Resolutions. Beyond security, the address highlighted Pakistan’s status as a “living miracle” of over 241 million people, emphasizing the country’s immense human capital and potential in fields ranging from technology and entrepreneurship to diplomacy and academia. The occasion also provided a platform to reaffirm the importance of dialogue and the longstanding, friendly relations between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, which are built on mutual respect and cooperation across trade, education, and defense.
Closing the commemoration, the High Commissioner renewed the resolve to uphold truth, justice, and peace in all collective endeavors. He expressed a steadfast commitment to deepening the bilateral partnership with Sri Lanka to foster regional stability and prosperity for future generations. The event concluded with a call to honor the sacrifices of the past by striving to build a future defined by harmony, progress, and mutual understanding.
