Palestine Ambassador in Colombo Ihab I.M. Khalil yesterday said that Sri Lanka’s independence day which falls on February 04 reflects the resilience, dignity and determination of Sri Lankans in safeguarding their sovereignty, peace and development.
In a message on the occasion of 78th Anniversary of the Independence of Sri Lanka, the ambassador wished Sri Lanka continued progress, prosperity and stability and the fulfillment of the aspirations and goals of its people.
“On the auspicious occasion of the 78th Anniversary of the Independence of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, I have the honor to extend my warmest congratulations and best wishes to the President, the Government, and the friendly people of Sri Lanka”, the ambassador in message said. .
He reaffirmed Palastine’s keen interest in further strengthening the longstanding relations of friendship and support between our two countries and peoples.
“We express our deep appreciation for Sri Lanka’s principled and supportive positions regarding the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, particularly their right to freedom, independence, and self-determination, in accordance with international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.”
He was of the view that Sri Lanka’s position towards Palestinian issue reflects its enduring and unwavering commitment to justice, international peace and security, international law and International Humanitarian Law.
