

COLOMBO :The Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd) accompanied by the Air Force Commander Air Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe, and Chairman of the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) Sajeewa Kanakaratne visited the Central Bus Terminal in Colombo yesterday (02 February) to inspect the ongoing renovation work being carried out there.
During the visit, the Defence Secretary reviewed the progress of the refurbishment project, which is being undertaken by the Sri Lanka Air Force with the aim of improving facilities and enhancing the overall environment for commuters and staff.
The inspection focused on the quality of construction, adherence to timelines, and the standards being maintained throughout the renovation process and the current stage of completion. SLAF Director General Construction Engineering, Air Vice Marshal Vajira Senadeera gave a detailed preview of the project work.
The project is being carried out under the national Clean Sri Lanka programme, which aims to enhance urban infrastructure while promoting environmental cleanliness and public convenience. The renovation of the Colombo Central Bus Terminal is expected to significantly upgrade infrastructure, improve passenger convenience, and contribute to a improved efficiency in public transport from the city.
The Defence Secretary carefully reviewing the work in progress gave necessary instructions, emphasising the importance of effective coordination with stakeholders for the timely completion of work while adhering to set quality standards.
Senior Sri Lanka Air Force officers and SLTB officials were also present at the occassion.
