COLOMBO — The Board of Trustees of the Colombo Grand Mosque including the Colombo Grand Mosque Crescent Committee jointly organised the Crescent Conference at the Mosque premises on Sunday January 25.
It was held under the patronage of Colombo Grand Mosque President Thahir Razeen and presided over by the Chairman of the Crescent Committee of the Colombo Grand Mosque Al Alim M.B.M. Hisham Fattahi.
The welcome address was delivered by Secretary of the Colombo Grand Mosque Crescent Committee and Al Hasaniyya Arabic College Deputy Principal Moulavi Al Alim A.L.M. Mazeen Al-Maktoomi.
Maulavi M.R. Abdur Rahman Al Hilali, Secretary of the Colombo Grand Mosque Crescent Committee delivered a speech on the topic “The impact of crescent-related norms observed in other countries on our country.”
Also Al-Alim. Rila Al-Makthoomi “Global Moon sighting in Sharia Perspective”, Moulavi M.R. Abdul Rahman “Hilal Criterias adopted in Foreign Countries and its Impact on our Local Community and Al-Alim C.I.M. Azmeer “The Role of Testimony to Determine the Crescent” addressed the gathering of different topics.
Finally Grand Mosque Crescent Committee Chairman and Madinatul Ilm Arabic College Senior Lecturer Khaleefathush Shazuli Alim M.B.M.Hisham Fattahi clarified the crescent conference decisions.
Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs Deputy Director A. Afroos Ahamed and Dr. A. M. M. Saliheen, Senior Officer – Department of Meteorology also briefed the audience on the sight of the crescent.
Ulamas, Scholars and Media personnel were also present.
