Palestine : Soumaya Ghannoushi, a writer and expert in Middle East politics, says Israel’s strike on Doha is not just an escalation but a “thunderclap, loud enough to rattle every palace, every ministry, every street in the Arab world.” She writes that Israel has bombed Gaza, the West Bank, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, Iraq, Iran, Tunis, and now Qatar, showing no regard for borders or sovereignty.
She says that this was not just any capital. Doha is a “Major Non-NATO Ally” of Washington, home to the largest US base in the Middle East, and a state that has poured billions into American coffers. None of it mattered. Just months ago, Trump stood in Doha boasting of a $1.2 trillion deal, pocketing tributes, even a $400 million private jet described as a “palace in the sky.” Yet when Netanyahu called in the strike, Trump gave the green light.
While Israel pushes towards its vision of Greater Israel, Ghannoushi says Arab regimes have traded dignity for illusions of security through deals like Camp David, Oslo, and the Abraham Accords. They jail their own people for protesting while keeping their skies open to Israeli warplanes.
She concludes that unless Arab states recognise Israel as the principal threat to their survival, they will remain exposed, humiliated, and betrayed, because Israel has already declared through fire that it threatens them all.
