The historic Ghaffoor Hall, long steeped in tradition and nostalgia, played host to the Zahira College Old Boys’ Association’s landmark 105th Annual General Meeting on Sunday, 29th March 2026. The event was graced by a truly remarkable gathering of Old Zahirains, who reunited with immense pride and enthusiasm, once again reaffirming their enduring bond with their alma mater.
The meeting commenced with the customary recital of Qirath by Ahmed Yufliq, eloquently delivered, and was then followed by the moving sequences of the College Anthem and the recitation of dua in memory of all deceased members.
With due decorum, the meeting then transitioned to its formal agenda. The notice and minutes of the previous meeting were meticulously reviewed, thereby ensuring transparency and continuity. The Annual Report for 2026 was comprehensively presented, highlighting the OBA’s achievements, milestones, and unwavering commitment to the college’s progress. Subsequently, the Audited Financial Report, which had been circulated among members, was formally adopted—a fitting testament to the association’s accountability and prudent stewardship.
The Presiding Officer, Mr. Akram Moulana, steered the proceedings with remarkable composure and consummate professionalism. Participation reached unprecedented levels, and it was truly heartening to witness a large gathering of Old Zahirians united in a spirit of genuine camaraderie.
The Annual General Meeting at Zahira — the historic institution founded in 1892 — was a resounding success, gracefully blending tradition with progress. Far more than a formal assembly, it evolved into a vibrant celebration of unity, leadership, and the enduring Zahira spirit that has thrived across 134 remarkable years.
This year’s AGM witnessed a gripping and closely contested race for the post of Secretary, with anticipation intensifying as each ballot was counted. In a dramatic finale, Dr. Sarfaz Saleem secured victory with 163 votes (50.15%) against the incumbent’s 162 (49.85%)—a remarkable one-vote margin, marking a truly razor-thin and memorable conclusion.
Mr. Haazik Jaleel expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the members for electing him as President of the OBA. At the outset, he emphasized Helen Keller’s famous quote, “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” He affirmed his commitment to continuing the Association’s work with diligence and integrity.
He further articulated his vision for the advancement of both members and students, highlighting initiatives in career guidance, internships, and mentorship programmes aimed at creating meaningful pathways to employment and enhancing opportunities for the student community.
