COLOMBO : The Executive Committee of Zahira College Group of 70s hosted their annual Iftar reception followed by a delectable dinner, on Saturday 28th of March, at the newly refurbished Flash Reception Hall at Baseline Road, Demategoda.
Group of 70’ is one of the most vibrant affiliated groups with 4 of its senior members inducted into the OBA. In addition, one of the members, Dr. Hafeez Rajudeen, is serving on the Board of Governors as well. The group was formed over a decade ago, by four pioneers, Fazul Haq, M.H.M.Falul, Rumy Jaleel, and the late T.R.Passala who laid the foundation, and today, there are over 150 members on roll.
Among the galaxy of distinguished guests who were present at this momentous event were Hon. A.H.M.Fowzie, Principal of Zahira College, Mr. Tririvii Marikar, BOG Chairman Fouzul Hameed, M.C.Rasooldeen, Editor-in-Chief of Colombo Times, Hameed Sadique and Dr. Irshad from HS Foundation, OBA Immediate Past President Alavi Mukthar and OBA President, Shiraz.
The president of G70, Thufail Farook, cordially welcomed all the guests at the annual iftar and briefly outlined G70’s activities including the distribution of the Zakat / Sadaqa fund among its lesser fortunate members during this holy month of Ramadan.
Mowlavi Haleem recited Qirath and delivered an inspiring Bayaan wherein he encapsulated the essence of Islamic family values. Afterward, it adjourned for the Magrib Prayer.
BOG Chairman Fouzul Hameed urged all Zahirians to rally around the Alma Mater and become stakeholders to make Zahira one of the best-ranked schools in the island.
The principal..Trizvi Marikkar encouraged all the affiliated bodies’ educational committees to work together in tandem for the betterment of Zahira and take the College to the next level. He amplified that Zahira has taken giant strides towards academic excellence as well as in the field of co-curricular activities.
Perry Jumath wound up the event with the proposal of a vote of thanks.
