Zahira College, Colombo opens its renovated Iqbal Hall

COLOMBO — The opening ceremony of the reconstructed Iqbal Hall at Zahira College was held at the college premises under the patronage of the Principal Trizviiy Marikkar on Sunday March 22.

The primary section students warmly welcomed the chief guest, distinguished old boy and Chairman of Diamond Best Foods, Jisthy Fahmi, accompanied by the college band.

The newly reconstructed six-storied building, constructed at a cost of three hundred million, consists of nineteen classrooms and an auditorium for the primary section, equipped with modern facilities. The original building was established in 1955.

Addressing the gathering, Principal Trizviiy Marikkar expressed his appreciation to the chief guest for his generous contributions to the development of the college. He also recalled Fahmi’s earlier support towards the construction of the college swimming pool and sports complex, and made special mention of matters relating to the construction of the Umbichy Building.

The Chairman of the Board of Governors, Fouzul Hameed, highlighted the importance of education, stating that the country needs a strong educational foundation. He also appealed to the staff to prioritize the education and well-being of the students. Furthermore, he spoke about the Zahira College Maharagama land and plans for future infrastructure development.

The Secretary of the Board of Governors, Nuzri Munsoor, also addressed the gathering.

During the ceremony, Principal Marikkar presented a token of appreciation to the chief guest Jisthy Fahmi on behalf of the college.

The Head of the Primary Section, Mrs. Hasna Iflal, delivered the vote of thanks.

Vice Principals, Sectional Heads, Iqbal Building Project Chairman Hilal Sanoon, President of the Old Boys’ Association Hazik Jaleel, members of the Board of Governors, old boys, teachers, and students were also present at the event.
