Zahira College’s Graduation Day 2022 was held on Saturday, May 27 at the historic Ghafoor Hall. This Graduation day is a value-added programme to the students passing out after having completed their formal education at the school.
Graduation day symbolizes the culmination of a student’s academic journey and marks the beginning of a new chapter in their lives to enter the next phase with a newfound sense of purpose and direction equipped with the knowledge, guidance, and skill they have gained during their academic journey at Zahira.
It is a day of celebrations, reflection, and gratitude that will be cherished by students for years to come. This year’s annual colourful event was jointly organized by the Advance Level Section in collaboration with The Centre for Excellence and OBA, as a fitting tribute to send off the students with honour and dignity.
The primary objectives are to assist and guide the students after A/L to acquire knowledge, information, and skills necessary to identify career options and narrow them down to make important career decisions, as well as to lend mentoring support for their academic and professional life and finally in creating law-abiding citizens.
The welcome speech was made by the Principal where he underlined the importance of the mentoring and the career guidance programme and stated that only a few schools offer this type of service with Zahira being one of them. He urged students to all become good Sri Lankan citizens.
Chairman of the Board of Governors, Fouzul Hameed then made a video presentation on a new journey and vision which captured the audience’s attention until the very end. He articulated the desire to move forward from “good” to “great”.
The much anticipated Keynote address was delivered by Mr. Hanif Yusoof- Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of Expolanka Holdings PLC.
In his inspiring speech, Hanif Yusoof, a man with a wealth of experience who is on the board of 44 other companies and a product of the prestigious Stanford University, drilled the concept of Reading into students’ minds and advised them to associate it with morally upright people, with the right connections. He further amplified that the key to success is perseverance and we should not compromise one’s integrity under any circumstances.
Afterward, mentoring sessions were held in the classrooms with the students. The mentor list of professionals was an array of well-renowned individuals in their respective fields – Dr. Amjath Hassan (Cardiologist – NHS), Dr. Hafeez Rajudeen (Ph.D.), Dr. Sarfaz Saleem(Ph.D). Mashood (Charted Accountant) and Mr. Ashraff Rumi ( Attorney at law and City Coroner), just to name a few.
The Panel discussion was held at Ghafoor Hall with the mentors. The principal acted as a moderator and the panelists interacted with the audience.
