COLOMBO — The Young Women’s Muslim Association (YWMA) distributed 20 sewing machines among widows as part of its Women’s Empowerment Programme, with the sponsored of the Muslim Commercial Bank MCB, based on Colombo.
The event took place on Thursday, April 30, at the All Ceylon YMMA Conference Auditorium in Colombo.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by YWMA President, Mrs. Fawaza Thaha. The Chief Guest, Thahir Riaz, Country General Manager of Muslim Commercial Bank, attended the event and ceremonially handed over the sewing machinesamong the beneficiaries.
Colombo Times Chief Editor Mohamed Rasooldeen and Dr. Noor Fathima also addressed the gathering. The event was attended by All Ceylon YMMA Conference Patron Khaid M. Farook, along with members of the YWMA.
As a gesture of appreciation, YWMA President Fawaza Thaha presented a souvenir to the Chief Guest. The vote of thanks was delivered by YWMA General Secretary Soraya Rizvi.
