COLOMBO — Western Province Governor Hanif Yusoof and Mayor of Colombo Vraie Cally Balthazaar, jointly inaugurated ‘ Salam Ramadan’ – a Cultural Festival on Friday, February 27 at the Green Path, Colombo.
The event is being held under the aegis of the Western Provincial Council and the Colombo Municipal Council. It will continue till February 28th and 1st March from 5.00 p.m. till 12 midnight.
The hybrid festival of food, culture and traditionis is being held with the participation of all four major Muslim groups, Moors, Malays, Memons and Bohras. Students of Muslim Ladies College presented a welcome dance.
The Salam Ramadan Program that now comes under the Office of the Governor of the Western Province aimed at making the Ramadan season a truly national and inclusive one by fostering a festive atmosphere, greater community participation and interfaith engagement, similar to religious and cultural festivals of other communities in Sri Lanka like Vesak and Christmas are celebrated in the country.
Nearly 120 stalls displayed traditional Muslim food items, textiles and arts like henna and calligraphy. Also Oman, Iran and Turkiye embassies displayed their food items at this ceremony.
Deputy Mayor of Colombo Hemantha Kumara , Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman Ahmed Ali Saeed Al Rashdi , Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ali Reza Delkhosh and Organising Committee Chairman Rizan Nazeer were present.at the ceremony.
