
COLOMBO : A special ceremony was held Friday, April (17) at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) to commemorate the 110th Birth Anniversary of Sirimavo Bandaranaike, the world’s first female Prime Minister and a towering figure in Sri Lankan history
Body: The event saw the participation of key leaders from the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), including its Chairperson Nimal Siripala de Silva, Senior Vice President President’s Counsel Faiszer Musthapha (MP), and General Secretary Duminda Dissanayake
During the proceedings, the leaders and attendees expressed that they were honored to participate in today’s event to commemorate the 110th Birth Anniversary of the greatest leader in Sri Lankan history. We gather today to pay tribute to the legacy of the world’s first female Prime Minister and her immense service to our nation.
Sirimavo Bandaranaike, born on April 17, 1916, in Ratnapura, etched her name in global history when she was elected as the world’s first female head of government in 1960.
Over a distinguished political career, she served as Prime Minister for three terms and was a founding pillar of the SLFP’s socialist and non-aligned foreign policies.
She is widely celebrated for her pioneering role as a woman in global politics and her dedication to the nation’s progress through various social and economic reforms.
